House leaves for recess amid disagreement over the effort targeting Hegseth

Thomas Massie has filed eight articles of impeachment. Filing them is neither their adoption nor removal from office.

The House left Washington for the campaign period on Wednesday, Associated Press reports. Thomas Massie criticized the departure while his effort targeting Pete Hegseth remained without a vote. Mike Johnson defended Congress’s record. [1]

An initiative and its procedural status

In his September 15 statement, Massie announces eight articles of impeachment against the defence secretary. They include allegations concerning the conduct of the Iran war and respect for congressional powers. The document sets out its author’s accusations; it is not a finding of guilt. [2]

ABC News also mentions the eight articles and their connection to the Iran war in the description of its September 16 video. That description confirms the subject of the initiative without establishing that a removal process has succeeded. [3]

Massie intends to obtain a vote. That intention does not amount to adoption of the articles. Following the case requires checking whether a vote occurs, precisely what it concerns and its result. [2]
