Sanofi opens a C$925-million vaccine facility in Toronto
The building’s inauguration precedes commercial production, expected in early 2027 subject to regulatory approvals.

Sanofi inaugurated an influenza-vaccine factory in Toronto on Wednesday. The company puts the project at C$925 million, including announced contributions of C$415 million from Ottawa and C$55 million from Ontario. [1]
Inauguration does not mean production has begun
Public contributions are included in that total. Sanofi expects production in early 2027, subject to regulatory approvals, for the 2027–28 influenza season. [1]
Ontario places the building on the Connaught campus in North York and gives its size as 263,000 square feet. It describes approximately 300 jobs associated with the project. These figures outline the investment and announced benefits; they do not, by themselves, measure future deliveries. [2]
Turning capacity into deliveries
CityNews sets the opening against supply concerns exposed during the pandemic. Its report describes the importance political leaders attach to domestic manufacturing and resilient supply chains. [3]
That perspective explains the project’s public importance, but an inaugurated factory does not yet demonstrate national self-sufficiency. The decisive stage will be authorized production, followed by actual vaccine availability. The building’s opening and future deliveries need to be tracked separately. [3]
