Ottawa launches $1.5 billion fund to protect affordable rents
The Canadian Housing Acquisition Fund will run the program; the 7,000-home target remains conditional.

New file: the fund, its manager and its conditional target are presented from separate government sources.
The federal government announced the launch of the Canada Rental Protection Fund and selected the Canadian Housing Acquisition Fund to deploy its investments. [1]
Backed by $1.5 billion, the program is intended to help community housing providers acquire and renew existing rental properties so their affordability can be preserved over the long term. [1]
Build Canada Homes says the fund could protect 7,000 at-risk homes during its first five years and attract private, philanthropic and public capital. That possibility depends on market conditions and acquisition opportunities. [1]
The announcement establishes the program framework and manager; it does not yet provide a record of buildings acquired or homes actually protected. [2]
