White House speeds review of voter rolls in 47 states

The effort targets noncitizen voters but does not itself establish widespread fraud.

The White House has urged federal agencies to speed up a review of at least 47 state voter rolls obtained by the Department of Homeland Security, Reuters reports. [1]

The effort is looking for people who may not be citizens among registered voters as the midterm elections approach. Reuters reports, however, that claims of widespread noncitizen voting have not been supported by established evidence. [1]

A presidential order issued in April already calls for creating and transmitting a federal citizenship list. Reuters says it is unclear how the current review obtained the state rolls. [2]

The administrative review is not by itself evidence of fraud or a decision to remove voters. Its effects will depend on verification methods and state responses. [1]
