Carried forward 2026-09-30. California’s September 25 position, reaffirmed September 28, is retained. This report is separate from the September 29 deportation ruling.

California will not use the federal SAVE database to check voter eligibility, Secretary of State Shirley Weber says in her September 25 statement. The state’s election rules remain unchanged. [1]

Position reaffirmed

In an interview reported by LAist on September 28, Weber reiterated that choice and cited errors in the system. The outlet obtained her comments on its AirTalk programme. [2]

Scope of the statement

The statement responds to a Supreme Court decision allowing SAVE’s expansion. It describes California’s response, not other states’ practices. [1]

Review does not mean removal

The issue forms part of the federal voter-roll review described by Reuters on September 24. The administrative review is not by itself evidence of fraud or a decision to remove voters. [3]
