LNG Canada approves expansion of its Kitimat terminal
The investment decision aims to double capacity; the additional facilities still have to be built.

New report on the decision announced September 28–29. Future capacity is distinct from current output.
LNG Canada’s partners have made a final investment decision on Phase 2 of the liquefied natural gas terminal in Kitimat, British Columbia. The company’s release, dated September 28, projects total capacity of 28 million tonnes a year, compared with 14 million currently. [1]
Pipeline expansion follows
On September 29, TC Energy confirmed that Coastal GasLink Phase 2 would also proceed. It plans new compressor stations and upgrades along the existing 670-kilometre pipeline route. [2]
Two connected facilities
Reuters corroborated the announcements on September 29. The terminal and pipeline are separate components: one liquefies gas for export, while the other carries it to Kitimat. [3]
Work still to be completed
The announced capacities describe the project after expansion. They do not represent additional exports already achieved or a guarantee of construction costs or timing. [3]
