Wainwright: United States offers help for soldiers with burns
Offer announced October 23; implementation is not established in the sources reviewed.

Carried forward October 26, 2026. October 23 U.S. offer and dated hospital figures retained.
The Canadian Press reported on October 23 that Ambassador Pete Hoekstra had announced a formal U.S. offer to help soldiers recovering from burns, if needed. The statement does not confirm acceptance of the offer or a patient transfer. [10]
National Defence said on October 22 that 27 service members remained hospitalized and 12 had been discharged. This dated update is not a real-time count. [7]
Hospital care
The Canadian Press corroborates those figures and reports 13 patients in critical condition, citing officials. The total of 39 injuries announced October 18 remains a separate, dated count. [9]
According to AP, Mark Carney said on October 19 that 50 investigators were examining the fire, led by the Canadian Forces National Investigation Service with RCMP support. [4]
National Defence confirmed on October 18 that four service members died and 39 others were injured in a fire the previous day, around 4 p.m. local time, at the Wainwright base in Alberta. [1]
A live-fire exercise
The release places the incident during the APOLLO SHOOTER live-fire exercise. According to the Armed Forces, strong winds rapidly spread the fire into the unit’s administrative area. [1]
Serious injuries
Reuters corroborates the toll and reports, citing officials on October 18, that 19 people were in critical condition. These figures remain those announced that day. [2]
The October 22 findings
The Provost Marshal said on October 22 that the fire began during training on an automatic grenade launcher range. A danger area limited direct firefighting. A wind change accelerated its spread; the other circumstances remain under investigation. [8]
Support for those affected
In an October 19 message, Defence leaders confirm an investigation into the circumstances and promise to share available information while respecting those affected. Supporting the injured and families remains their immediate priority. [3]
