New report dated November 3, 2026, on the survey released November 2. Figures cross-checked between Reuters and Dow Jones; S&P Global’s original release was inaccessible during verification.

S&P Global’s Canadian manufacturing PMI fell to 49.6 in October from 51.5 in September, Reuters reported on November 2. It slipped below 50, the survey’s dividing line between expansion and contraction. [1]

Fewer orders

Production and new orders declined. The orders index reached 46.5, its lowest reading since September 2025, according to Reuters. [1]

Persistent cost pressures

Dow Jones reports that supply lead times lengthened sharply. Surveyed firms cite tariffs and conflicts; their costs are rising and they are increasing selling prices. [2]

What the number measures

These separate news reports describe the same S&P Global survey, not two independent measurements. The PMI indicates business conditions; it is not a GDP growth rate. [2]
