After strikes on Iran, IAEA seeks access to nuclear sites
Remote observations do not replace inspections on the ground.

Carried forward on October 30, 2026. October 27 findings retained; restored access is not treated as established.
At the Security Council on October 27, Rafael Grossi said the IAEA had observed no repairs to Iranian facilities damaged in U.S. and Israeli strikes. The UN account says access on the ground remains necessary. [1]
What remains unknown
Arab News reports that the agency still cannot verify the absence of diversion of safeguarded material, including the declared highly enriched uranium stockpile. This verification gap is not itself proof of diversion. [2]
A limited exception
The UN says inspectors are working at the Bushehr power plant. That limited presence does not mean normal inspections have resumed across all relevant sites. [1]
The diplomatic route
Arab News reports that Grossi called for a return to a negotiated inspection framework and highlighted regional mediation. The request concerns ways to verify nuclear commitments, without announcing a newly completed agreement. [2]
