Quebec’s second debate puts the referendum and CAQ record in the spotlight
Leaders confronted their proposals on Noovo on Wednesday. Public services and living costs were also on the agenda.

September 17 follow-up: this article covers the second debate, held September 16, replacing its earlier presentation as an upcoming event.
The Parti Québécois referendum proposal featured prominently in the second leaders’ debate on Noovo on Wednesday, September 16. The Canadian Press reports that Christine Fréchette criticized the uncertainty associated with the project, while Paul St-Pierre Plamondon defended sovereignty. [1]
The government’s record also challenged
The 90-minute discussion also covered finances, infrastructure, young people, health and the French language. The exchanges illustrate two choices for voters: the political project to pursue and how to manage everyday services. [1]
Nicolas Lachance’s report for TVA Nouvelles emphasizes that Fréchette had to defend the CAQ’s record. Criticism of the government therefore accompanied attacks on the sovereignty proposal. [2]
TVA also identifies health-care differences: Éric Duhaime advocates private provision, while St-Pierre Plamondon emphasizes CLSC community health centres. Ruba Ghazal addresses education and housing. These campaign priorities do not, by themselves, establish that the proposed solutions are effective. [2]
