New report for September 30. Forthcoming events are described according to announced schedules.

Canada marks the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation this September 30. The Canadian Press notes that the commemoration honours Indigenous residential school survivors and children who did not return home. [3]

An announced programme

The prime minister’s schedule lists Mark Carney’s participation in an Edmonton ceremony at 9:30 a.m. local time. Published on September 29, the schedule remains subject to change; his remarks are still forthcoming as this edition is prepared. [1]

Opportunities to listen

The Gord Downie & Chanie Wenjack Fund announces A DAY TO LISTEN from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. local time on participating radio stations. An online session with hereditary chief and survivor Robert Joseph is scheduled for 2 p.m. Eastern time. [2]

The Fund presents these activities as part of continuing work to learn and build relationships with Indigenous peoples. The published schedules offer ways to participate without anticipating what speakers will say during the day. [2]
