Carried forward November 3, 2026. October 29 royal assent and the 2027 reinstatement schedule retained.

Bill C-38 received royal assent on October 29, Parliament’s register confirms. The legislation extending fuel excise tax relief has therefore completed the final legislative stage. [1]

The timetable

Finance Canada says the suspension continues through January 31, 2027. Rates will then return at half their usual levels from February 1 through March 31, before being fully restored on April 1. [2]

The scope

The measure covers gasoline, diesel and aviation fuels. It concerns a federal tax; it does not set the final price at the pump. [2]

From proposal to law

The extension was proposed in September, Global News reported. [3]
